After a massive success in Sport Prototype with the 917, Porsche had to retire in the end of 1971 due to a change of rules. There was nothing more to prove on that side and Porsche decided then to develop a racing version of the 911 to promote the brand. In 1972 the Motorsport department designed a race car called 2.8 RSR who incorporated a lot of technology from the 917. However in order to match with the FIA requirements it was required to build 400 cars to get the Group 4 homologation, then the RS appeared. Porsche was surprised with the demand and actually built more than 1500 example over 1973. The car was a fantastic machine in back 1973, a very safe and high performance car.
For auction here is a beautiful 911 RS conversion. Based on an original 1973 911S, the car has been driven only 44,505 km (27,815) miles from new.  The paint on the car is the original color, light signal yellow--which is also an original 1973 RS color.  Starting with a solid nearly-new car the previous Japanese owner of over 30 years added a factory set of original RS rear arches, which were correctly butt-welded to the rear, and then every other RS-unique part was installed.  None of these were replica parts; they were all factory RS parts.  The conversion, and all of the service performed on this car since new, was carried out by the most experienced RS shop in the country, which had daily access to original RSs in the shop while the conversion was being undertaken, to make sure it was as accurate as possible.  The engine was also fully rebuilt at this time.  A lot of time and money was spent on the car to make it as close to an original RS as possible--and this is something that cannot be done today to this level, as these factory-original RS parts are no longer available.   (The steering wheel shown, which is not an RS part, will be replaced with an original RS wheel when the car is delivered.)  Don't miss this opportunity to buy a super low-mileage 911S that has been converted to what is as close to an original RS available anywhere in the world.
